One of the most recognized vintage Porsche builders in the world, Rod Emory built his reputation on the quality of his work, attention to detail, and performance. As the decades have passed, his builds have gotten increasingly creative and adventurous to reflect his growing fame.

This particular car is a relatively early build, completed in 2002 as a 911-powered 912 race car. The included SOVREN log book shows that the car was raced several times in 2003 and has been used primarily on the street since then, having been sold in 2007 to a collector who used it on the street. Subsequent owners have also used it on the street primarily.

In its current form, it is very streetable, being mild-mannered and tractable. The car is powered by an Emory-built 2.0 liter flat-6 (based on a 911L case) with Weber carburetors, 911S cams, S valves, heavy duty valve springs, ported and polished heads, and Weisco pistons. Other upgrades include billet aluminum motor mounts, 1.5” headers, 2-in 2-out Bursch RSR OE-style muffler.

There is a Setrab racing oil cooler with braided lines and aeroquip fittings, plus a 12 gallon Enduro fuel cell and Carter high-capacity fuel pump. A 901 5-speed transmits power and has been fitted with a Seine short shifter which gives precise and repeatable gearchanges, neither of which 901s are usually known for. The chassis employs front and rear sway bars, the front is a through-chassis type with adjustable end links and the rear is from a 911S with strengthened mounts to go with. Suspension upgrades also include Bilstein shock absorbers, Turbo tie rod ends, and stainless braided brake lines. 

The exterior features fiberglass bumpers, Raydyot mirrors, plexiglas side and rear windows (including rear screen) and rally lamps. The car sits on 1967 dated 5.5” steel wheels wearing Pirelli CN36 tires. The interior has been stripped of carpet and has a roll cage together with Kirkey aluminum racing seats and racing harnesses. Additional safety equipment includes a fire suppression system. The steering wheel has a quick-release hub, and Rennline pedals and driver’s floorboard have also been fitted, as has a shift indicator light.

Given the car’s streetable nature, it would be an ideal rally car,  weekend driver, or track day car. Alternatively, with more current safety equipment, it could also easily be returned to vintage racing duty.
