A highly developed and period-campaigned example of the Porsche 914-6, this 1970 chassis represents an authentic and competitive entrant from one of the most exciting eras of North American sports car racing. Campaigned in IMSA GTU competition and Canada’s MolySlip Endurance Championship throughout the 1970s, this car embodies the ingenuity and underdog spirit that defined the platform’s racing success.

Most notably, this example competed in the 12 Hours of Sebring four consecutive times between 1979 and 1982. In the 1979 running, the car achieved an impressive 23rd overall finish and 7th in GTU class, an extraordinary result given the dominance of factory-backed machinery. It notably finished ahead of icons such as Hurley Haywood and John Paul Sr. in their formidable Porsche 935 entries, cementing its place as a giant-killer among far more powerful competitors.

At its core lies a highly developed 2.5-liter flat-six engine, the case being derived from a 1967 2.0L 911, featuring twin-plug heads, PMO carburetors, and ITG filtration. Supporting systems include MSD ignition, an Accusump oiling system, headers, and a fuel cell. Power is transmitted through a 915 transaxle with adapted side mounted shifter, with shortened gearing.

The Porsche 914-6 GTU stands as one of Porsche’s most effective and innovative competition platforms of the early 1970s. With lightweight construction, mid-engine balance, and extensive racing development, the model achieved significant success, including class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
