While it is a given today that Ferrari will produce a lighter, more powerful, more focused and aggressive version of its front-engined V12 two-seat production car in limited numbers, this practice started with this car, the 599 GTO. The formula to create it will be familiar to Ferrari enthusiasts: starting with the standard car’s already remarkable performance, the GTO adds a tuned engine, improved aerodynamics, more aggressive suspension, lighter weight, and more sporting aesthetic treatments.

In more specific terms, that means improved engine breathing, revised engine management, new crankshaft, various measures to reduce internal engine friction, and a less restrictive exhaust system that is also louder. The result is a power increase from 610 metric horsepower to 670 metric horsepower. This is backed by a quicker-shifting version of the transmission: gearchanges occur in about half the time of the standard 599. Carbon ceramic brakes are standard equipment, which also has the benefit of reducing weight, as does more extensive use of carbon fiber and a pared down interior with standard sport seats. The car weighs a remarkable 100 kilograms less than the standard 599 GTB as a result. The suspension employs stiffer springs and a larger rear sway bar for more neutral handling, while aerodynamic updates included reworked diffusers and a newly sculpted rear spoiler, both designed to increase downforce while adding minimal drag. The net result of these changes was a complete transformation of the car’s performance, enough for the 599 GTO to be the then quickest accelerating Ferrari road car to 60 MPH and to circulate Ferrari’s Fiorano test track a full second quicker than even the Enzo.

In total, 599 examples were built, of which just 125 came to the United States. This particular example is one of the 125 US market cars, and was sold new by Ferrari of Silicon Valley. It is one of five US 599 GTOs finished Rosso Formula 1 2007 and one of four in this color scheme of Rosso Formula 1 2007 with Grigio Silverstone Opaco (matte) roof. The car comes with an extensive file of service records showing conscientious maintenance, and has also been Classiche certified. In addition to the red book, the car comes with books, tools, car cover, and tire repair kit.
